What is Egyptian Cotton?
Egyptian Cotton (Gossypium Barbadense: Pima Cotton) originates from Egypt and has the reputation of being the world's finest cotton. The length of the fibre (or the staple) is much greater than that of other cottons. The longer the fibre the higher the quality of the cotton.

The length of the fibre makes it possible to spin the finest of yarns without losing the strength.

Why Egyptian Cotton?
Fabrics made from Egyptian Cotton are softer, finer, stronger and longer lasting than any other cotton, creating beautiful quality linen. Egyptian cotton improves with age and can be machine washed and tumble dried.

Organic Egyptian Cotton
The raw Egyptian Cotton used to weave the Falucca Linen base fabric is origin certified (Egypt) and carries a certification number from the Organic Crop Improvement Association International based in the USA, which promotes the best possible organic farming methods internationally.

550 Thread Count
The sophisticated allure of the incredibly fine 100% Egyptian cotton sateen, 550 thread count, is heightened by the elegance of its double satin stitch design. The handle of the fabric likened only to silk would be the impeccable selection for the indulgent bed.

Weave
Falucca Linen has used a satin weave (4/1) which enhances the tactile qualities of Egyptian Cotton even further.

Thread Count and Quality
Thread count refers to the number of threads both in the vertical and horizontal direction in a specified area (3.16cm2). Most cotton fabrics will start at 150 with percale referring to a thread count of 200 to 250. Percale therefore refers to a weave and not a special kind of cotton. While bedding fabrics are available with thread counts of up to 1000, anything in excess of 600 single ply threads in most cases becomes too heavy and dense to be comfortable. The thread count is also affected by the ply of the threads used. The ply refers to how many threads are wrapped together to form a single thread.

Single ply fabrics use threads on their own and in cottons with short fibers, two threads are often twisted together to form a two-ply thread while this doubles the thread count of the fabric it results in a heavier yet weaker fabric. The longer, finer Egyptian Cotton fibre allows for more threads to be woven into a square inch of fabric without making the fabric heavy and hard. Softness and luxury are maintained without forsaking quality and strength.
